CASSIE PACKARD



...is a Brooklyn-based arts writer particularly interested in networks and worlding.

Packard (she/they) is a cultural critic with bylines in Architectural Digest, Art in America, Artforum, ArtReview, BOMB, Bookforum, The Brooklyn Rail, Cultured, e-flux, Financial Times, frieze, Interview, Los Angeles Review of Books, and Momus, among other publications. Her writing appears in volumes published by the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Dais Books, GRIMM, Karma, Ki Smith Gallery, Miles McEnery Gallery, and Viaindustriae, and she is the author of Art Rules (Frances Lincoln, 2023). 

Packard is an oral historian for Eyebeam and a member of the International Association of Art Critics. She was a 2023 Momus/Eyebeam Shortlisted Critical Writing Fellow, a 2022 Recess Critical Writing Fellow, and a 2019 Art & Law Fellow.

She has been a guest lecturer, visiting critic, or speaker at institutions including Brandeis University, Brown University, Columbia University, the Fine Arts Work Center, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, The New School, the New York Art Residency and Studios Foundation, New York University, NYC Crit Club, and Parsons School of Design, and as well as a panelist at AWP, Flag Art Foundation, Horasis, and Rutgers University.

Her writing has been cited in books published by Cambridge University Press, NYU Press, Oxford University Press, Routledge, Springer Publishing, University of Pittsburgh Press, and Wiley, among others.

Packard spent four years as a Researcher at Hauser & Wirth in New York, where she conducted art historical and provenance research, wrote essays and wall text, and produced publications. She holds an MA (Merit) in Art History from University College London and a BA (Honors) in Art History from Brown University, where she co-curated several exhibitions with a grant from Brown’s Modern Culture & Media Department.
